Goji berries come from a shrub called Lycium barbarum in Latin and there are seven species in China where its origin is although we could see its roots in the Mediterranean basin. The berries are called Níngxià gǒuqǐ zǐ 宁夏枸杞子 in Chinese for Niangxia goji. It is reported in Akkadian mythology that the protégé of the gods Uta-Napishtim revealed Lycium to Gilgamesh as a plant of immortality. In ancient times, many people used it in all ways to prolong their lives, like Taoist doctors.
Their fruits are also among the foods that contain the most antioxidants in the world such as carotenoids and flavonoids but they are also rich in vitamin C, E, B1, B2, B6, minerals, trace elements, proteins, amino acids, acids fat, fiber and polysaccharides.
Our goji berries come from Qinhai-Tibet, southwest of China. Called the roof of the world, this region is on the highest plateau in the country with an average altitude of 4000 meters. This privileged place ensures perfect conditions for its cultivation, the pure air and water of the Himalayas make them the most nutritious in the world.
